China fired rockets into the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday morning, according to AFP footage, as Beijing launched the second day of its large‑scale live‑fire military drills around the self‑ruled island.
AFP journalists stationed in Pingtan the Chinese island closest to Taiwan’s main island reported seeing a volley of rockets shooting into the sky at around 9 a.m. (0100 GMT), leaving long trails of white smoke.
The drills come amid heightened tensions in the region, with Beijing continuing to assert military pressure on Taiwan.
