Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha, is now fighting for his life. His family has approved an emergency operation in Singapore, where doctors have described his condition as extremely critical and in need of advanced treatment.
A statement released on Wednesday said that if Hadi succumbs to his injuries and is regarded as a martyr, the people of Bangladesh who support independence and sovereignty are being called to gather at Shahbagh. The statement further noted that his struggle has become a symbol of the fight for freedom and democracy, sparking new political debate across the country.
Nationwide Crackdown After Assassination Attempt
Following the shooting attack on Hadi, authorities launched “Devil Hunt Phase-2” across Bangladesh beginning on December 13. According to the police headquarters, in the past five days officers have searched 42,894 vehicles as part of the operation.
A message issued on December 18 confirmed that law enforcement agencies remain on high alert nationwide. Checkposts have been set up on roads and highways, with suspicious vehicles and passengers being thoroughly inspected.
