A fresh tremor was felt in Dhaka on Saturday evening after 6pm, just a day after a stronger earthquake rattled the capital and nearby districts. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department confirmed that Saturday’s quake measured 3.3 in magnitude, following Friday’s 5.7 magnitude earthquake that killed at least 10 people and injured more than 200.
In response, the European Union’s Dhaka office issued a statement expressing deep condolences to the victims, their families, and those affected. The U.S. Embassy also released a message of sympathy, underscoring international solidarity with Bangladesh during this crisis.
Friday’s quake caused significant damage and loss, but the outpouring of global support is being seen as an important aid to Bangladesh’s disaster response efforts.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has taken special measures to ensure emergency treatment for potential victims. Acting on the immediate instructions of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, the university has reserved four hospital beds and set up a dedicated emergency unit.
The back-to-back tremors have heightened concern across the country, with authorities and medical institutions bracing for further aftershocks while extending urgent care to those affected.
