DMP Chief Warns Against Panic: Dhaka on High Alert Ahead of November 13 Lockdown

1 min read

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) intelligence chief Shafiqul Islam has urged residents not to panic over the Awami League’s announced November 13 lockdown, stressing that law enforcement will use the full force of the law against anyone attempting sabotage or spreading fear.

Speaking at a press briefing on November 12, Shafiqul Islam said attempts were being made to frighten ordinary citizens. “There is nothing to fear in the lockdown. Even innocent rickshaw pullers are being paid 500 taka to shout slogans,” he remarked, underscoring that authorities are prepared to act decisively.

Security has been tightened at key state installations, with extra police deployed across all 50 DMP police stations. Officials say the measures are aimed at preventing sabotage and ensuring public safety.

Despite assurances, unrest has continued in recent days. Miscreants have set fire to school vehicles and passenger buses, while the DMP reported 17 crude bomb blasts at 15 locations in the past 11 days, fueling public anxiety and raising concerns about security.

Law enforcement insists the situation is under control, but the visible impact of violence remains. With the capital on high alert, authorities are determined to prevent further escalation and reassure citizens that safety measures are firmly in place.
