With national elections on the horizon, the process of redefining parliamentary boundaries has officially begun. Over the next four days, the Election Commission will hear and review 1,760 objections tied to 83 constituencies across the country.
The hearings kicked off today with 683 objections from 18 constituencies in the Cumilla region. Monday will focus on 499 cases from Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram. On Tuesday, 316 objections from Dhaka will be addressed potentially reshaping key urban boundaries. The final day, Wednesday, will cover 282 cases from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Faridpur, and Sylhet.
All hearings are being held at the Commission’s headquarters, where petitioners and their representatives are presenting their cases. After the sessions conclude, legal teams will assess the claims and finalize decisions that could significantly impact constituency layouts ahead of the election.
This boundary review has sparked widespread interest among political parties, civic groups, and local leaders. Analysts suggest the outcome could influence not just the electoral map, but also campaign strategies and voting dynamics in the months to come.
