Khaleda Zia, the Chairperson of BNP and a prominent political figure, has finally returned to Bangladesh after an extended stay of nearly four months in London for advanced medical treatment. Accompanying her were her two daughters-in-law, including Tarique Rahman’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman.
A Qatar royal air ambulance, generously provided by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, carried Khaleda and her entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:42 am, marking her first arrival in Bangladesh since her treatment abroad. BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan confirmed her arrival.
Leading the reception, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with several senior party leaders, reached the airport around 8:30 am to welcome their leader. The special air ambulance departed Heathrow Airport around 9:35 pm (BST) on Monday, making its way back to Dhaka with Khaleda onboard.
As news of her return spread, BNP supporters and party activists assembled in large numbers along the nearly 10-kilometer route from the airport road to Gulshan Avenue, eager to greet Khaleda. Supporters held national and party flags, lining both sides of the route since early morning, creating a sea of red and green in celebration.
BNP leadership had earlier issued a clear instruction to supporters not to stand on the roads but to instead greet Khaleda from the footpaths. Mirza Fakhrul urged everyone to follow these guidelines, emphasizing that supporters could display flags while welcoming their leader from the sidewalks, ensuring a peaceful and organized reception.
Khaleda’s return marks a significant moment for BNP as she re-enters the political arena after her health-related absence abroad, amid ongoing political developments in Bangladesh.
