American actress Sydney Sweeney is set to take on a starring role in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game Split Fiction, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project marks another exciting step in Sweeney’s expanding career, which now includes her first involvement in a major video game adaptation.
Split Fiction, developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts, is a co-op adventure game that immerses players in the worlds created by two authors, Mio and Zoe, who find themselves trapped within their own stories. The game is renowned for its innovative split-screen multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to explore these fantastical worlds together.
While the role Sweeney will portray has yet to be revealed, it’s confirmed that she will also serve as an executive producer on the film. Jon M. Chu will direct, with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick—famous for Deadpool and Wolverine—penning the script. The production will be led by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson’s Story Kitchen alongside Chu’s Electric Somewhere.
The Split Fiction game, released in March, achieved remarkable commercial success, selling two million copies in its first week. Hazelight Studios celebrated the milestone with enthusiasm, expressing gratitude to fans worldwide for their support.
This project continues Sweeney’s collaboration with the gaming world, as she is also developing a movie adaptation of Sega’s OutRun alongside Michael Bay. The film, backed by Universal Pictures, will see Bay directing and producing, with Sweeney onboard as a producer as well.
Fans eagerly await more details on the cast and release date as this exciting adaptation moves forward, blending Hollywood talent with beloved video game stories.
