Australia’s selectors have opted to rest their Test powerhouses for the upcoming Twenty20 series against Pakistan, shifting the spotlight to emerging stars and experienced T20 players.
The three-match series, starting on November 14, will wrap up just days before the Aussies kick off a major home Test campaign against India.
Pace spearheads Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, alongside key Test batsmen Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, will sit out of the T20s to prepare for the high-stakes Tests. All-rounder Cameron Green has also been sidelined for the entire summer due to injury.
With regular T20 captain Marsh unavailable, the captaincy slot is open, with Josh Inglis, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, and Matthew Short seen as contenders to lead against Pakistan. Fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson return from injuries to join the squad, which also features emerging talents like Cooper Connolly and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
“This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series,” said George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector. “We are excited by the mix of experience and emerging talent.”
The T20 series schedule includes games in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart, leading up to the first Test against India in Perth on November 22. The T20 squad selection reflects a strategic blend of seasoned T20 specialists and promising new talent, showcasing Australia’s depth as they juggle multiple formats during a busy home season.
