Six organisers of the quota reform movement who are being detained by the Criminal Branch (DB) of police for security reasons will soon be returned to their families, a senior DB official announced today.
“We are in talks with the six promoters of quota reform for an immediate reunion with their families,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Harun Or Rashid told reporters at his office on Minto Road in Dhaka.
Responding to a query, the DB official said that the student leaders have withdrawn all programs relating to the quota reform movement by issuing a statement voluntarily following the fulfillment of their demands.
“I am requesting all not to spread rumors centering on the issue,” said Harun.
Earlier on Sunday night, Nahid, one of the key organizers, along with five other coordinators, announced via a video message that they were withdrawing all programs.
Later, the message was distributed to the mass media from the DB office.
The quota reform coordinators are Md Nahid Islam, Md Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Md Abu Baker Mazumder, Asif Mahmud, and Nusrat Tabassum.
