Tasmania Police say one person has been seriously injured and another hurt after a single‑vehicle crash in Blackmans Bay on Monday morning, triggering widespread power outages and forcing the closure of a major road as emergency crews worked at the scene.
The crash happened just after 9am on Burwood Drive, south of Hobart. Police confirmed one occupant suffered serious injuries, while a second person sustained non‑life‑threatening injuries. Both were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.
The impact brought down two power lines, initially leaving 1,500 customers without electricity. Around 320 residents remain without power as crews continue repairs. Authorities have urged locals to avoid the area, with Burwood Road closed between Dianella Drive and Lomandra Drive while emergency services respond.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash.
Tasmania Police noted that as of last Wednesday, the state has recorded 120 serious crashes so far in 2026, with 16 fatalities and 133 injuries slightly lower than the same period last year, which saw 135 serious crashes and 158 injuries.
