Long Queues and Limited Sales: Fuel Shortages Persist Across Dhaka Despite Price Hike

1 min read

Fuel supply frustrations are mounting in Dhaka as long queues stretch across petrol pumps, with many stations still limiting sales despite the recent increase in consumer‑level fuel prices. Hopes that the price adjustment would quickly stabilise supply have not materialised instead, the situation appears to be worsening for everyday commuters.

A visit to several filling stations on Sunday revealed lines of motorcyclists waiting 30 minutes to over an hour, only to be told they could not fill their tanks. Many pumps are capping sales at Tk 200 or Tk 300, leaving riders without the fuel they need for daily travel.

Instead of easing restrictions, numerous stations continue to enforce strict limits, meaning customers are paying more but receiving less. The impact has been particularly severe for motorcyclists and ride‑share drivers, whose livelihoods depend on consistent access to fuel.

Transport operators warn that if the situation does not improve soon, the ripple effects could spread across the broader transport sector, potentially disrupting mobility and increasing public hardship.
