North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has supervised another round of weapons tests, this time involving strategic cruise missiles and anti‑warship missiles launched from a naval destroyer, state media reported Tuesday. The launches, conducted Sunday, mark the latest in a rapid succession of missile tests by the nuclear‑armed state.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), two strategic cruise missiles flew for roughly 7,900 seconds more than two hours while the anti‑ship missiles flew for nearly 2,000 seconds (about 33 minutes). KCNA said the missiles followed pre‑set flight paths over the West Sea (Yellow Sea) and struck their targets with “ultra‑precision” accuracy.
The tests were carried out from the Choe Hyon, one of two 5,000‑ton destroyers North Korea launched last year as part of Kim’s push to expand naval capabilities. KCNA released photos showing a missile lifting off from the warship with a bright orange flame, and another image of Kim observing the launch alongside senior naval officials.
KCNA also reported that Kim received a briefing on weapons systems being developed for two additional destroyers currently under construction, adding that he “made an important conclusion” during the session. The agency said Kim expressed “great satisfaction” with the strengthening of the military’s strategic readiness.
The latest tests underscore Pyongyang’s continued focus on advancing long‑range and maritime strike capabilities, even as regional tensions remain high.
