The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended Cricket Canada with immediate effect after determining the board committed “serious breaches” of its membership obligations a decision that comes just weeks after the ICC’s anti‑corruption unit launched a formal investigation into the organisation.
Despite the suspension, the Canadian national team will still be allowed to compete in ICC events, with funding to support the squads now delivered through a controlled financial mechanism, the ICC said on Monday.
The move follows a CBC documentary aired in April, which levelled explosive allegations of corruption within Cricket Canada. The claims involved players and officials and included accusations of match manipulation and threats of violence. Media reports indicate the ICC’s anti‑corruption investigation began shortly after the documentary’s release.
Following a board meeting in Ahmedabad, India, the ICC announced:
“The ICC board resolved to suspend Cricket Canada from ICC membership with immediate effect due to serious breaches of its membership obligations.”
To regain full membership, Cricket Canada must comply with a strict set of conditions aimed at overhauling its governance and administrative structures.
The suspension marks one of the most significant disciplinary actions taken by the ICC in recent years and places intense pressure on Cricket Canada to reform quickly or risk long‑term isolation from the global cricket community.
