Amid the backdrop of damaged buildings and displaced families’ tents, 250 Palestinian couples took part in a large-scale wedding celebration in Gaza, offering a rare moment of joy and hope in a region heavily affected by conflict.
The mass wedding was organised by the Operation Gallant Knight 3, a humanitarian initiative supported by the United Arab Emirates, bringing together brides and grooms from across Gaza for a collective celebration of marriage and new beginnings.
Organisers described the event as a symbol of resilience, unity, and hope for the future despite the difficult conditions faced by many families in the enclave. The ceremony featured traditional wedding celebrations and provided support to couples who might otherwise have struggled to afford wedding expenses due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The event took place against the backdrop of a fragile security situation. Although a ceasefire came into effect in Gaza in October last year, reports indicate that military activity and air strikes have continued in various areas.
The current conflict traces back to the 7 October 2023 attack led by Hamas against Israel, during which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage.
Following the attack, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza. According to figures released by Gaza’s health authorities, more than 74,640 people have been killed during the conflict.
Despite the hardships endured by many Gazans, the mass wedding ceremony served as a reminder of the determination of local communities to continue building families and pursuing normal life whenever possible.
Participants and organisers said the celebration aimed to bring a sense of optimism and solidarity to couples beginning a new chapter of their lives amid challenging circumstances.
