The United States Government has announced a reward of up to US$20 million (approximately A$29 million) for information related to Iran’s nuclear program, despite repeated claims by President Donald Trump that the program has been severely degraded by months of conflict.
According to a statement released by the Rewards for Justice Program, a security initiative administered by the US State Department, the reward will be offered for information about Iran’s nuclear facilities, equipment, and personnel involved in the country’s nuclear activities.
The program, established in 1984, is designed to provide financial rewards for information that helps protect American interests and save lives.
In a post published by US Central Command (CENTCOM), officials said the reward applies to information concerning:
“Iran’s nuclear program, its facilities, equipment, and associated personnel, including members of the scientific community.”
The announcement comes amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran following more than eight months of conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The State Department said concerns remain over Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations nuclear watchdog.
According to US officials, Iran’s alleged failure to fully comply with its safeguards obligations has resulted in the IAEA losing what it described as continuity of knowledge regarding Iran’s production activities and inventories of sensitive nuclear-related components, including centrifuges.
Meanwhile, President Trump has continued to argue that Iran is eager to reach a negotiated settlement.
“We’re dealing with them now. They want to make a deal very badly,” Trump said.
The president has repeatedly stated that Iran’s economy and military have been significantly weakened by the conflict, while maintaining that diplomatic efforts remain active.
International mediators are continuing talks aimed at preventing a renewed escalation in hostilities and encouraging a negotiated resolution to the crisis.
The latest reward announcement highlights ongoing US concerns about Iran’s nuclear capabilities and signals that intelligence-gathering efforts remain a key component of Washington’s strategy despite claims that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure has suffered extensive damage during the conflict.
