Elderly Man Fighting for Life After Suspected Assault During Morning Walk in Western Sydney

An elderly man is in a critical condition after suffering severe head injuries in what police believe was a violent assault in Western Sydney early Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to Orchardleigh Street in Yennora at around 4:40am, where neighbours discovered the 74‑year‑old man lying injured. He was rushed to Westmead Hospital, where he remains unable to speak with investigators.

Police say the man a married father‑of‑three known for taking early morning walks had been out for about half an hour before the attack. Acting Fairfield City Police Area Commander Brenton Sommerville said the victim “appeared to be the victim of an assault,” adding that detectives are working to piece together his movements and identify who may have been involved.

Neighbours described the man as gentle and quiet, someone who walked the same route every morning.
John Sau, who often saw him pass by, said: “He’s nice and quiet… does walking every morning.” Another neighbour, Joshua Albrown, called him “a peaceful man.”

Police are urging anyone with information or CCTV footage from the area to come forward as the investigation intensifies.
