Grammy‑winning singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray over a violent altercation in a London nightclub that left a music producer injured. The 37‑year‑old entered the plea at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, marking a major shift after previously denying more serious charges linked to what prosecutors described as a “vicious attack” in February 2023.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped charges of assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon a bottle allegedly used during the fight. Brown’s friend and vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu also pleaded guilty to affray. Both men had been scheduled to stand trial in October.
Prosecutors said surveillance footage captured Brown striking producer Abraham Diaw twice in the head with a glass bottle inside Tape nightclub in Mayfair. “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack… in a crowded nightclub,” senior prosecutor Claire Campbell said, adding that the CPS would continue working to ensure “no one is above the law.”
Brown had been free on £5 million bail, allowing him to tour Europe and North America last summer. He was released on bail again Friday and will be sentenced on October 26, with affray carrying a maximum penalty of three years in prison.
Wearing a tan suit, gold‑rimmed sunglasses and a St. Louis Cardinals cap, Brown signed autographs for fans as he left court. The singer, who rose to fame in 2005, has won two Grammys for Best R&B Album first for F.A.M.E. in 2011 and again for 11:11 (Deluxe) in 2025.
