The government has significantly expanded the pilot rollout of the QR‑code‑based Fuel Pass BD system, extending the digital fuel‑purchase programme far beyond Dhaka in a major push to strengthen transparency and control within the national fuel distribution network.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that motorcycle owners across a wide range of districts will now be brought under the digital registration system. The expanded coverage includes Dhaka, Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Chandpur, Chattogram, Chattogram Metropolitan Area, Barishal, Barishal Metropolitan Area, Khulna, Khulna Metropolitan Area, Rajshahi, Rajshahi Metropolitan Area, and Mymensingh.
Alongside the district‑level expansion, the government has also added 11 more filling stations in Dhaka to the pilot programme, substantially increasing the number of outlets offering Fuel Pass services. Newly added stations include Karim and Sons at Shapla Chattar, Eureka Enterprise in Mohakhali, Masud Hasan Filling Station near the airport, Sattar and Company and Kamal Trading Agency in Tejgaon Industrial Area, City Filling Station, Diganta Filling Station in Ibrahimpur, SP Filling Station at Gabtali, Sheba Green Filling Station in Uttara, Sam Associates in Mirpur‑2, and Sumatra Filling Station on Mirpur Kalshi Road.
The Fuel Pass system was first launched on a trial basis at Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonar Bangla Filling Station at Asad Gate, before gradually expanding to Talukder Filling Station, Gulshan Service Station, Meghna Model Pump, Nikunja Model Service Centre, and Khalek Service Station.
Developed by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, the Fuel Pass BD app allows motorcycle riders to purchase fuel using QR codes. The system is integrated with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) database, enabling vehicle‑based verification and helping prevent irregularities such as multiple purchases, unauthorised collection, and misuse during periods of supply pressure.
Officials say the expanded pilot is expected to streamline fuel distribution, reduce malpractice, and ensure more efficient management of fuel resources nationwide marking a major step toward a fully digitised fuel‑supply ecosystem.
