Australian Army Deputy Chief Maj Gen Chris Smith paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen military cooperation between Bangladesh and Australia.
During the meeting, both officials reviewed the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in defence and security matters. Discussions focused on improving the professional capabilities of their respective armed forces through expanded bilateral training programmes, technical cooperation, and stronger strategic communication.
He expressed interest in expanding cooperation between the two countries in advanced training and experience-sharing for peacekeepers to contribute to global peace and stability.
