The Embassy of Bangladesh in **Madrid, Spain, observed the National Revolution and Solidarity Day 2026 on 7 November with due dignity and solemnity through a series of commemorative programmes.
The day’s events began with the hoisting of the national flag by Masudur Rahman, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Spain. Embassy officials, community leaders, and members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community residing in Spain were present at the ceremony.
Following the flag-hoisting, participants observed a one-minute silence in memory of Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and their deceased family members.
A discussion session highlighting the significance of 7 November was later held at the embassy auditorium. The programme began with the reading of official messages sent by the President and the Prime Minister marking the occasion.
A short documentary provided by the Ministry of Information was also screened, portraying the political circumstances of 1975 and illustrating the unity, solidarity, and aspirations for national progress reflected in the historic revolutionary movement of that day.
Speakers at the event paid tribute to the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman during Bangladesh’s Liberation War and remembered his role in the country’s history. They also reflected on the significance of the movement that emerged through the combined efforts of members of the armed forces and the people.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Masudur Rahman praised the united revolutionary forces that emerged from the solidarity of the armed forces and the public. He emphasized the enduring values and principles associated with 7 November, including democracy, equality, justice, freedom, and an independent foreign policy.
“The spirit of 7 November embodies the values of democracy, equality, justice, freedom, and an independent foreign policy. We must continue to uphold and preserve these ideals for future generations,” the ambassador said.
He also called upon all present to remain committed to the principles and spirit of the historic day.
The programme concluded with special prayers seeking eternal peace for Ziaur Rahman and his family members, as well as prayers for the continued progress, prosperity, and development of Bangladesh and the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates living in Spain.
Guests were later served traditional Bangladeshi cuisine as part of the commemorative event.
