Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has departed for New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with officials describing the visit as a mission focused on advancing Bangladesh’s national interests through diplomacy and international engagement.
According to Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson Mahdi Amin, the visit is centered on representing Bangladesh on the global stage through a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings, high-level UN events, and discussions aimed at promoting the country’s priorities and development goals.
In a statement shared on social media, Mahdi Amin said the six-day visit includes one day of travel to the United States, one day for the return journey, and four days dedicated to official engagements. During that period, the prime minister is expected to participate in back-to-back meetings, diplomatic discussions, and UN programmes.
Officials said the delegation accompanying the prime minister consists of 35 members, including ministers, advisers, state ministers, and support personnel responsible for security, media operations, and administrative duties.
The visit also carries symbolic significance, according to the prime minister’s office. Tarique Rahman is expected to address global leaders and international representatives at the UN, outlining Bangladesh’s perspectives on key international issues, as well as the country’s development priorities and future plans.
Another notable aspect of this year’s UNGA session is that Bangladesh’s foreign minister is serving in a leadership role within the General Assembly, highlighting the country’s active participation in international diplomacy.
Bangladesh is expected to use the forum to strengthen diplomatic ties, promote its interests on the international stage, and engage with global partners on matters of mutual concern.
