Australian motorcycle racing will maintain its long-standing presence in MotoGP after Senna Agius secured a full-time ride with KTM Tech3 for the 2027 season.
The 21-year-old Sydneysider will step up from Moto2 to the premier class, ensuring Australia continues its uninterrupted representation at the highest level of Grand Prix motorcycle racing for a 43rd consecutive year.
Agius has earned his promotion after an impressive Moto2 campaign. Currently sitting fourth in the championship standings, he has established himself as one of the category’s rising stars. The Australian has claimed four Moto2 Grand Prix victories during his career, including wins at the Circuit of the Americas in the United States and Jerez in Spain earlier this season.
One of the standout moments of his young career came at Phillip Island, where he captured victory in front of home fans last year. His move to MotoGP means he is expected to compete in Australia’s premier-class race at Adelaide’s planned street circuit next season.
Agius will join KTM Tech3, with former Formula One team principal Guenther Steiner serving as the team’s chief executive. The signing marks the realization of a lifelong ambition for the Australian rider.
“Today a lifelong dream of mine has come true, reaching MotoGP,” Agius said after the announcement.
He thanked Steiner and the Tech3 organization for the opportunity and said he is prepared to embrace the challenge of competing against the world’s best riders.
Australia has enjoyed a continuous presence in motorcycle racing’s top category since 1985. Since the modern MotoGP era began in 2002, following the transition from 500cc two-stroke machines to four-stroke motorcycles, Agius will become the 11th Australian rider to compete full-time in the championship.
He is also set to become Australia’s sole full-time MotoGP representative next season following the departure of Jack Miller, who is expected to move to the World Superbike Championship after concluding a 12-year MotoGP career.
Agius’s promotion is being viewed as the next chapter in Australia’s rich motorcycle racing tradition, with fans hoping the young rider can build on his Moto2 success and establish himself among the sport’s elite.
