Masud Khalil, a long-serving independent councillor on Campbelltown City Council, has announced his intention to contest the next New South Wales state election, which is expected to take place in March 2027.
The announcement was made at an event held at the Ron Moore Community Centre in Minto, Western Sydney, where community leaders, professionals, business owners, and local residents gathered to hear details of his plans.
Khalil has built his public profile through years of service in local government, representing residents in the Campbelltown area. He previously served as Deputy Mayor, becoming one of the most prominent Bangladeshi-Australian representatives in local government. His political career has focused largely on community services, local infrastructure, and resident advocacy.
Speaking at the event, Khalil highlighted his experience in local government and said he would seek to bring grassroots concerns and community perspectives to a broader policy platform. He emphasized the importance of public services, local engagement, and civic participation.
Khalil plans to contest the election as an independent candidate, with support from Community Voice of Australia, a local political organization. He said his campaign would focus on issues affecting local residents and communities across the electorate.
The event was hosted by fellow Campbelltown councillor Khaled Halabi and attracted attendees from a range of cultural, professional, and community backgrounds, reflecting the diverse makeup of the Western Sydney region.
With the NSW state election still months away, Khalil’s announcement marks the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched campaign in the Campbelltown electorate.
