Bangabhaban’s Darbar Hall Ready for Swearing‑In of President‑Elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir

The Darbar Hall at Bangabhaban is fully prepared for the swearing‑in of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam confirmed on Friday.

“All preparations for the honourable president’s swearing‑in have been completed. Everything is ready. The Cabinet Division will conduct the ceremony,” he said.

The presidential election was held on Thursday in a festive atmosphere inside the Jatiya Sangsad chamber from 2:10pm to 5pm. After counting concluded, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin announced the results.

Mirza Fakhrul secured 255 votes, becoming Bangladesh’s 23rd president. His rival, Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad, candidate of the 11‑party opposition alliance led by Jamaat‑e‑Islami, received 88 votes.

Election Commission officials said 343 out of 349 MPs cast their votes, while six abstained.

The swearing‑in ceremony will formally begin Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s tenure as the country’s new head of state.
