UN Says Hamas Stormed Gaza Aid Depot, Forcing Workers to Halt Food Distributions

2 min read

The United Nations has accused Hamas‑affiliated personnel of disrupting critical aid operations in northern Gaza after armed individuals allegedly forced their way into a food distribution centre over the weekend.

A senior UN official said humanitarian staff were “endangered” during the incident at the Abu Rashid distribution point in Jabalia, where workers were compelled to halt food deliveries amid rising tensions and shrinking operational space.

Dr Ramiz Alakbarov, deputy special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, said the forced entry added severe pressure on aid agencies already struggling to support Palestinians facing “immense and pressing humanitarian conditions.” He warned that direct threats, interference with supplies and expanding Israeli‑controlled areas were making it increasingly difficult for civilians to access assistance.

Israel, long criticised over the flow of aid into Gaza, seized on the UN’s statement. The Israeli military agency COGAT, which oversees aid entry, reiterated its claim that Hamas is obstructing humanitarian deliveries, a point disputed by several international organisations.

The UN says humanitarian access continues to shrink as the conflict grinds on, leaving workers caught between armed interference on the ground and expanding military control across the strip. With food insecurity worsening, the latest disruption highlights the fragile and dangerous conditions under which aid teams are operating.
