John Travolta has stepped behind the camera for the first time and he did it in unforgettable fashion. The veteran actor made his official directorial debut at the Cannes Film Festival with Propeller One‑Way Night Coach, an adaptation of his 1997 children’s book. Adding to the emotional weight of the moment, his daughter Ella Travolta appears in the film, making the project a true family milestone.
Travolta spoke about the experience during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he lit up the moment a clip featuring Ella appeared on screen. Smiling proudly, he said, “A star is born, right?” His joy was unmistakable a father watching his daughter shine in a film he brought to life.
The Cannes spotlight didn’t stop there. Travolta was also awarded an Honorary Palme d’Or, one of the festival’s highest distinctions, recognizing a career defined by range, reinvention and iconic roles.
Ella, meanwhile, shared her own reflections on working with her father. Speaking to PEOPLE, she described the experience as deeply meaningful. “I knew it was such a special night for my whole family that I sort of made sure to put myself in the moment and really take it all in,” she said. “It felt very calm, actually, and very just beautiful and very emotional.”
For the Travolta family, Cannes wasn’t just a premiere it was a celebration of legacy, creativity and a new generation stepping into the spotlight.
