Bangladesh will celebrate Eid‑ul‑Azha after the moon for the month of Zil‑Hajj was sighted in Cox’s Bazar, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad announced following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
The meeting was attended by the Islamic Foundation’s director general, officials from the Meteorological Department, Baitul Mukarram’s Khatib, and other committee members. According to ministry sources, moon‑sighting information was gathered from district administrations, Islamic Foundation field offices and the Meteorological Department before the final decision was confirmed.
Eid‑ul‑Azha, one of the two major festivals for Muslims, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice what was dearest to him in obedience to the Almighty a symbol of devotion, faith and submission.
