Perth Airport Terminal 1 Reopens After Unattended Bag Scare, But Flight Delays Continue

1 min read

Passengers were allowed back inside Perth Airport’s Terminal 1 on Wednesday evening after a major security response to an unattended bag forced the building to be evacuated for nearly two hours, triggering widespread delays.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and WA Police established an exclusion zone around the terminal as they investigated the item, urging the public to avoid the area while checks were carried out. The terminal’s drop‑off and pick‑up zone was also temporarily closed.

By 6:30pm, crowds that had been waiting outside were finally permitted to re‑enter the building. “The AFP and WA Police investigation at Terminal 1 International has now concluded, and the impacted areas are beginning to reopen,” Perth Airport said in a statement.

Airport officials warned that delays are expected as airlines work to recover from the disruption. Passengers have been urged to check directly with their carriers for the latest flight information.

Before the terminal reopened, large groups of travellers were seen gathering outside the entrance, with several flights affected during the shutdown.

Authorities have not released further details about the bag, but operations are now gradually returning to normal.
