Iran Says US-Israel Strikes Have Caused $27 Billion in Damage, Early Government Estimate Shows

Iran’s government says the joint US-Israel military campaign has caused at least $27 billion in economic and infrastructure losses so far, according to an initial assessment shared by government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani in an interview with Tasnim News on Tuesday. She warned that the figure could rise significantly once full evaluations are completed.

Mohajerani said the damage includes destroyed buildings, lost industrial revenue, and widespread harm to critical infrastructure. She added that the preliminary estimate was presented to US representatives during a meeting in Islamabad on April 11.

Long‑Standing Tensions and Failed Talks
Iran and the United States have been locked in confrontation over Tehran’s nuclear and missile programs for more than two decades. Earlier this year, the two sides held 21 days of talks between February 6 and 27, but negotiations ended without agreement.

The following day, on February 28, the US launched Operation Epic Fury, while Israel began its own offensive, Operation Roaring Lion, marking the start of the current war.

On the first day of the conflict, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, ending his 37‑year tenure as the country’s highest authority. Several senior Iranian officials also died in the initial US-Israeli strikes.

The conflict has since expanded across multiple fronts, causing massive destruction inside Iran and reshaping regional dynamics.
