Swearing‑In of Newly Elected MPs of Bangladesh’s 13th Parliament to Be Held at 10 AM Today

The swearing‑in ceremony for the newly elected members of Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliament will take place at 10 AM in the oath‑taking chamber of the National Parliament Secretariat. Thousands of guests from home and abroad have been invited to attend. The oath will be administered by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin.

On Monday evening, Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed that the CEC will administer the oath to the newly elected MPs at the designated venue this morning.

According to an official letter signed by Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed,
“The Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the oath‑taking of the elected members of the 13th National Parliament and the members of the Constitutional Reform Council on 17 February from 10 AM at the oath‑taking chamber of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat.”

Election results and party standings
The EC secretary stated that, based on unofficial results from 297 constituencies, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won 209 seats, while Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami secured 68 seats.
Additionally, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) won six seats, and independent candidates won seven seats.

BNP, having secured the majority, received 49.97% of the total votes under the sheaf of paddy symbol. Jamaat‑e‑Islami, the second‑largest party in terms of seats, received 31.76% of the votes under the scales symbol.

Among other parties, the NCP contested 32 seats under the water lily symbol and received 3.05% of the vote.

According to EC data, a total of 50 political parties and 274 independent candidates contested the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Two results withheld due to court order
Although voting was held in 299 constituencies, results for Chattogram‑2 and Chattogram‑4 were withheld due to court directives. Results for the remaining 297 seats have been officially announced.

Top officials notified to ensure smooth proceedings
To ensure the ceremony runs smoothly, the Election Commission has sent copies of the directive to top administrative and security officials, including:

Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser

Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division

Inspector General of Police (IGP)

Secretaries of all ministries

Divisional Commissioners

Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs)

Directors General of BGB, RAB, Coast Guard, and other law‑enforcement agencies
