Canberra Man Denied Bail Over Alleged Stalking of Lyneham Couple

A Canberra man accused of repeatedly stalking a Lyneham couple whom police believe he had never met has been refused bail in the ACT Magistrates Court.

Kristaps Fridemanis, 39, appeared in court on Monday supported by his partner and children. He is facing two counts of stalking, alleged to have occurred between January and February this year.

Repeated visits and disturbing notes
The court heard that Fridemanis allegedly went to the couple’s home four times in two months, once pretending to be an arborist to gain access. On another visit, he is accused of trying to remove the home’s doorbell camera.

Police allege he left several letters for the couple, including one addressed to the wife accusing her husband of inappropriate sexual behaviour at work. He also allegedly went to the husband’s workplace, waiting in the car park and watching as the man returned to his vehicle to find a note left on it.

Fridemanis was arrested at a home in Cook on Sunday.

Court rejects bail
Prosecutor Mark Wadsworth opposed bail, citing the prolonged nature of the alleged stalking, concerns about the accused’s mental health, and the need to protect the couple.

Magistrate Lorraine Walker described the alleged conduct as “highly concerning.” After reviewing police facts and CCTV photographs, she said the evidence appeared “strong.”

Fridemanis was remanded in custody and is due to return to court in March.
