Police Must Act Neutrally in National Election, Says Interim Government Adviser

Interim government Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the national election is a matter of critical state responsibility, and the role of the police is extremely important. He emphasized that the police will carry out their duties with full neutrality.

He made the remarks on Sunday (4 January) after visiting a training workshop titled “Enhancing Police Skills and Capacity for Election Duty” at the DMP Training Academy in Rajarbagh, ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazl Mohammad Sanaullah said that no indirect or unethical instructions have been given and none will be given in the future.
He stated that if any individual engages in irregularities, it will be their personal misconduct, but the Election Commission’s directives remain rooted in transparency, neutrality and firmness.

He made these comments on Sunday (4 January) around 12:30 pm during a meeting with the law‑and‑order committees of Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas at the Ukhiya Upazila Parishad auditorium, in preparation for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the 2026 Referendum.
