Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has expressed deep concern over the safety of Bangladeshi athletes in India, following the removal of pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL on “security grounds.” Farooki called the decision “disgraceful,” saying it reflects the rise of hate‑driven politics that has left Bangladeshis hurt and disappointed.
Farooki noted that recent incidents of violence against minority communities in India which Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already expressed concern about raise questions about whether the opposition to Bangladeshi players is influenced by similar motives. He urged authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
He also warned that the future safety of Bangladesh’s cricket and football teams in India must now be reassessed.
“In the future, we must consider how safe our teams will be there,” he said.
Mustafizur’s exclusion has sparked widespread dissatisfaction in Bangladesh, with many expressing negative reactions toward India. Earlier, Sports Ministry adviser Asif Nazrul instructed the BCB to demand that the T20 World Cup venue be shifted from India to Sri Lanka. Farooki’s remarks come in the wake of that directive.
