Pakistan Army Operation Kills 22 Militants; Afghanistan Threatens Retaliation After Airstrikes

1 min read

The Pakistan Army announced that 22 militants allegedly backed by India were killed in a major operation in Bannu district. According to a statement from the military’s media wing, ISPR, the raid targeted members of the group Fitna al-Khareji, described as an Indian proxy organization. Heavy gunfire ensued, leaving 22 dead, while a “clean-up operation” continues to locate any remaining militants in the area.

Meanwhile, tensions escalated further as Afghanistan threatened retaliation following reported Pakistani airstrikes in Khost province on Tuesday night. The Taliban government claimed at least 10 people were killed, including nine children, though Pakistan has denied carrying out the attack.

The incident comes amid already strained relations. In October, deadly clashes broke out between the two countries, later halted through mediation by Qatar and Turkey, though tensions persisted. On Monday, a suicide bombing in Peshawar killed six people, prompting Islamabad to launch overnight strikes across the border in Afghanistan.
