Three people sustained serious burn injuries after an explosion, reportedly caused by a gas leak, ripped through a house in Feni Sadar upazila.
The injured were identified as Md Rafiqul Islam, 40, Abul Kashem, 55, and Jesmin Akhter, 30. All three victims were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for urgent treatment.
Professor Dr Bidhan Sarkar, chief of the unit, confirmed their conditions, saying Rafiqul suffered 22 percent burns, Kashem 20 percent, and Jesmin 13 percent. He added that all three also sustained respiratory burns, which can complicate recovery.
Family members told doctors that the explosion was triggered by a gas leakage inside their residence. The blast left the victims trapped before neighbors rushed to help and emergency services transported them to Dhaka.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and whether faulty gas lines or negligence played a role.
The incident has once again raised concerns about gas safety in residential areas, as similar accidents have occurred in recent years across Bangladesh, often linked to poor maintenance of pipelines and household connections.
