Wild weather struck South Australia’s south east yesterday, bringing high tides, six metre swells, gusts reaching 100 kilometres per hour and intense rainfall that left Kingston South East and Robe reeling from flooding and infrastructure damage for the third time in two months.
Residents had only just begun recovering from similar storms that hit in late May and again at the end of June. In Kingston’s Rosetown area, flooding returned for the third time this year. Despite homes being built high above street level, emergency crews were called to protect two residences where water had entered.
Emergency services raced to respond as the storms swept through the region.
“The rough weather kept crews busy across the state,” said emergency services spokesperson Chris Marks. “In the South East alone we received 32 requests for assistance. Our volunteers worked tirelessly.”
