Ausgrid’s Group Executive for Safety, Delivery & Operations, Sam Sofi, provided an update on power outages across New South Wales, revealing about 30,000 customers are currently without electricity. More than half of these outages are concentrated in the Central Coast, with approximately 13,000 affected in the Newcastle area.
In Sydney, the situation is somewhat better, with only around 1,500 customers impacted at this time, Mr. Sofi noted.
However, he warned that it’s unclear when power will be fully restored. “Given the weather’s still continuing, and probably going to continue through the night, probably into the early hours of the morning, unfortunately, the customers are coming off faster than we can put them back on at present,” he explained.
Mr. Sofi added that many affected customers are likely to remain without power throughout Wednesday, with some potentially staying disconnected into the evening.
Earlier, it was reported that a tree had fallen on the tracks of the T1 train line just before 6 pm, disrupting services between St Marys and Penrith. Transport for NSW confirmed that the tree has now been cleared and the train has moved forward.
More than 100 passengers were onboard at the time of the incident, highlighting the ongoing impact of weather-related disruptions across the region.
