Following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated to alarming levels. Both nations have responded with reciprocal measures, with India banning Pakistani ships from entering its ports. In retaliation, Pakistan has closed all its ports to Indian vessels and announced that Pakistani-flagged ships will no longer dock at Indian ports.
The Pakistani news outlet The Dawn reported on Sunday, May 4, that in the wake of the deadly attack in Pahalgam on April 22, relations between the two neighbors have further deteriorated. The attack claimed the lives of 26 people, most of whom were tourists, marking one of the deadliest incidents in Kashmir since 2000. India has hinted at Pakistani involvement but has yet to provide concrete evidence. Pakistan has denied any role and called for an impartial investigation.
Since the attack, border tensions have surged. Pakistan has deployed additional troops along the border, while India’s military has been given operational freedom to respond as needed. Earlier, Pakistan claimed to have intelligence suggesting India was planning an attack within 24 to 36 hours, prompting intense diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis.
The recent developments underscore the fragile state of India-Pakistan relations, with both sides now engaging in a series of countermeasures that threaten regional stability.
