Zimbabwe Ends Day One of First Test in Command, Bangladesh Struggles with the Bat

1 min read

Zimbabwe finished the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh in a dominant position, ending play at 67-0 after a spirited bowling effort that dismissed Bangladesh for 191 runs on Sunday.

The visitors’ opening pair of Brian Bennett, unbeaten on 40 off 37 balls, and Ben Curran, who scored 17, applied relentless pressure on Bangladesh’s bowlers during the 14.1 overs they faced before bad light brought an early halt to proceedings.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 40 after winning the toss and choosing to bat on a pitch conducive to pace, saw his team falter. Despite good starts from top-scorer Mominul Haque (56) and Jakir Ali (28), none could convert their beginnings into substantial innings.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and aggressive performance, with paceman Blessing Muzarabani and left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza each claiming three wickets. Their relentless effort has left Bangladesh with a challenging first innings to rebuild.
