The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) hosted an Iftar party at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday, bringing together foreign diplomats stationed in the country. The event was attended by ambassadors, high commissioners, mission chiefs, chargé d’affaires, and representatives of various international bodies, fostering diplomatic relations and goodwill.

Before breaking the fast, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed the guests and engaged in friendly conversation. In his brief address, he reaffirmed the BNP’s commitment to democracy, accountability, the rule of law, and good governance. “We want to ensure that the political future of Bangladesh will be determined solely by its people,” he stated, emphasizing the party’s dedication to fostering a political environment that is both just and humane.

Fakhrul expressed hope that Bangladesh’s international friends and partners would respect the principles of non-interference, sovereignty, and peaceful dispute resolution, which are vital for the nation’s collective development. “We look forward to collaborating closely with our partners to ensure shared progress in our region through democracy and liberal trade partnerships. Enhancing people-to-people contacts is also a priority for us,” he added.

The BNP leader highlighted that the Iftar gathering served as a reminder of the essential values of justice, resilience, and unity. He asserted that the people of Bangladesh deserve a future free from fear, oppression, and political uncertainty, calling for a clear path toward a swift return to democracy through free and fair elections.

During the Iftar, Fakhrul shared a meal with notable attendees, including British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke, retired US diplomat Jon Danilowicz, Pakistan High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof, and Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen. Diplomats from various countries—including the US, UK, Germany, China, India, and others—along with representatives from international organizations such as various UN agencies, also participated in the event.

Senior BNP leaders, civil society members, and prominent journalists and educators were present, contributing to a diverse and engaging atmosphere. The gathering concluded with a munajat, seeking divine blessings for the peace, progress, and welfare of the Bangladeshi people.
