Tragic Highway Crash Claims Four Lives in Perth

In a devastating incident on Leach Highway near Perth’s airport, a fiery head-on collision has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a mother and her daughter. Police report that the driver responsible for the crash made a “conscious decision” to operate their vehicle on the wrong side of the road.

The accident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Monday when a Toyota RAV4 SUV collided head-on with a taxi, instantly killing the two women, aged 56 and 81, who were seated in the back. The taxi’s 58-year-old driver also lost his life in the catastrophic crash.

Authorities have confirmed that the SUV was traveling at high speed when it struck the taxi, igniting a fire upon impact. The driver of the RAV4 has not yet been identified, but police are investigating whether the actions were intentional, as they have gathered evidence suggesting reckless driving prior to the incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hugh Letessier expressed the profound impact of the tragedy, noting, “It’s such a tragic event for that family. Not just for that family who’ve lost a mother and daughter… there are four families who have been impacted by this.”

Prior to the collision, witnesses reported that the driver of the SUV was driving erratically through nearby suburbs, ultimately entering the highway from an off-ramp in the wrong direction. Police have obtained dash-cam footage from the wrecked RAV4, which may provide further insights into the vehicle’s movements before the crash.

Images circulating on social media depict the chaotic scene, showing a car engulfed in flames alongside the wreckage of the taxi as emergency services worked diligently to manage the aftermath.

As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of life and grapples with the implications of such reckless behavior on the roads.
