Israel rejects Biden’s proposal

US President Joe Biden proposed a resolution on Friday (May 31) to end the ongoing war in the besieged Gaza. The proposal calls for a 6-week ceasefire first and then a gradual, permanent cessation of hostilities. But Israel rejected the US proposal.

The US President said in his proposal that there would be a six-week ceasefire. Israeli forces will then withdraw from the populated areas of Gaza. A large amount of relief will then be arranged to reach Gaza. At the same time, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and Hamas will release Israeli hostages—including male soldiers. Then the reconstruction of Gaza will begin. Finally, there will be a permanent cease-fire between the two sides.

Biden called it Israel’s proposal. However, his proposal was rejected by the occupying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu said in a statement on Saturday that the war will continue until Hamas’ military and administrative structures are wiped out.

“Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: destroying Hamas’ military and administrative structures, freeing all hostages, and ensuring Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel,” he said.

He added, “Israel will stick to its terms until there is a permanent ceasefire. It is unlikely that Israel will agree to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are met.”

Meanwhile, in an immediate reaction after Biden proposed a ceasefire, Hamas said it was “positive”. Israel’s opposition parties also supported it. The family members of the hostages held by Hamas are also demanding the implementation of this proposal.
