Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said his government is committed to transforming Bangladesh into a major investment hub, highlighting the country’s economic potential and strategic importance in the region.
He made the remarks while addressing the opening session of the Bay of Bengal Conversation (BOBC) 2026 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Saturday. The three-day international dialogue platform is being organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) and has attracted prominent participants from around the world.
Speaking at the conference, the prime minister emphasized the government’s focus on attracting foreign investment, strengthening economic partnerships and positioning Bangladesh as a competitive destination for global businesses.
This year’s BOBC conference has brought together around 200 speakers, 300 delegates and more than 1,000 participants representing over 100 countries, making it one of the region’s largest forums for dialogue on international affairs, governance and economic cooperation.
The event is being attended by former heads of state, ministers, diplomats, policymakers, researchers, journalists and experts from various countries. Among the notable participants are former Serbian President Boris Tadic, former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed, and former Malian Prime Minister Moussa Mara.
BOBC 2026 aims to provide a platform for discussions on key regional and global challenges, bringing together policymakers, academics, diplomats and stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore solutions to pressing international issues.
The conference is expected to feature discussions on areas including economic development, regional connectivity, governance, climate challenges, security cooperation and the evolving geopolitical landscape of the Bay of Bengal region.
Bangladesh’s leadership views such international forums as an opportunity to showcase the country’s economic progress and strengthen its engagement with global partners as it seeks greater foreign investment and expanded trade opportunities.
