Russian Strikes on Kyiv Push Death Toll to 10 as Rescuers Search Through Collapsed Homes

The death toll from Russian bombardment on the Kyiv region climbed to 10 on Monday, with authorities warning the number is likely to rise as rescue teams continue pulling survivors from shattered apartment blocks.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the capital’s military administration, said on Telegram that 46 people were wounded, including five children, and stressed that ongoing operations could uncover more victims. One fatality was confirmed earlier in the Bucha district, northwest of Kyiv.

The overnight assault involved both missiles and drones, striking multiple residential areas across the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency crews worked through the morning to free residents trapped inside buildings torn open by the blasts.

In the historic Podilskyi district, Tkachenko said rescuers recovered two bodies from a heavily damaged apartment block, while 24 people were injured citywide. Four residential buildings in Podilskyi alone were hit, causing partial collapses and leaving families stranded on upper floors.

Klitschko reported that 15 people were evacuated from one building, with three women and six children brought down safely from the top levels as firefighters navigated debris and unstable structures.

The strikes mark one of the deadliest attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks, underscoring the continued vulnerability of civilian neighbourhoods as Russia intensifies pressure on the region.
