1 min read

A Russian missile strike on the Black Sea port city of Odesa has killed two people after slamming into a residential building, intensifying concerns over the growing toll on civilians more than four years into the war.

Deputy mayor Oleksandr Filatov confirmed the fatalities at the scene, describing extensive damage to the building and surrounding neighbourhood. Officials said eight people were wounded, including two children, as the blast tore through homes and nearby structures.

The strike also damaged residential buildings, a religious institution, a pre‑school facility, vehicles and other civilian infrastructure a grim reminder of how deeply the conflict continues to penetrate everyday life. Ukrainian authorities say attacks have escalated in recent months, with both sides intensifying strikes across multiple regions.

According to the United Nations, June was the deadliest month for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022, underscoring a sharp rise in casualties as the war grinds on with no sign of easing.

The latest attack in Odesa adds to a growing list of strikes on urban centres, fuelling fears that civilian areas remain dangerously exposed as the conflict enters yet another volatile phase.
