South Australia Police are investigating the death of an infant following an incident at the Tollgate Motel in Glen Osmond, on the southeastern outskirts of Adelaide.
According to reports, police and ambulance crews were called to the motel, located adjacent to the South Eastern Freeway about five kilometres southeast of Adelaide’s central business district, at around 9:00am on Saturday.
Witnesses said a significant emergency response was present at the scene, with some estimating that approximately 20 police officers attended the location.
A nearby resident told media that several police vehicles were stationed in the area.
“There were at least four or five police cars here,” the resident said.
“It’s a bit concerning that we’ve got police cars down the end of our quiet cul-de-sac.”
Authorities established a cordon around the motel while officers conducted investigations. Police remained at the scene for several hours before leaving during the afternoon.
At this stage, the cause of the infant’s death has not been determined.
South Australia Police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with assistance from crime scene investigators and Eastern District Detectives. Authorities have also indicated that a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
No further details have been released, and police have not publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding the incident while inquiries continue.
Investigators are expected to examine all available evidence to determine the cause and circumstances of the child’s death.
