Perth Braces for Dangerous Weekend Storm as Fierce Winds and Heavy Rain Threaten WA’s South

1 min read

Perth and much of southern Western Australia are preparing for a powerful winter blast, with authorities warning residents to secure their homes ahead of a severe storm expected to hit over the weekend.

Forecasters say destructive wind gusts of up to 125 kilometres an hour and intense rainfall will sweep across the South West Land Division from Saturday evening. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster James Ashley described the incoming system as “an unusually strong and intense winter system,” urging the public to take the warnings seriously.

Ashley said conditions would deteriorate rapidly from Saturday night, with winds and rain surging along the central west coast before spreading south and east through Sunday and Monday. Offshore conditions are also expected to become dangerous, with waves forecast to reach eight metres, raising the risk of significant beach erosion particularly around high tides on Sunday and Monday mornings.

Emergency services are advising residents to secure loose items, prepare for possible power outages and avoid coastal areas as the system approaches. With the storm set to be one of the strongest of the season, authorities say early preparation will be crucial.
