One Dead, Another Critically Injured After Car Ploughs Into Crowd Outside Melbourne Comic Convention

A man has died and another is fighting for life after a car allegedly swerved into a group of pedestrians outside a major comic convention in Melbourne late this afternoon. Police say a grey Toyota mounted the kerb on Langs Road, near the Melbourne Showgrounds, just after 5pm, striking two people who were walking in the area.

One victim, who has not yet been formally identified, died at the scene despite emergency efforts. The second pedestrian was rushed to hospital with life‑threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Victoria Police confirmed that a man has been arrested and will be interviewed as part of the investigation. Officers have not yet released details about what may have led to the incident.

Thousands of people were in the vicinity attending the Supanova Comic Con, one of the country’s largest pop‑culture events, raising concerns about how many others may have witnessed the crash.

A major crime scene has been established, with SES crews assisting police as they examine the area and interview attendees who may have seen the vehicle moments before impact.
