A man believed to be in his 60s has died after being rescued from a room engulfed in flames during a house fire in Springvale South late Friday night. Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 11pm, where firefighters pulled the man out unresponsive.

He was rushed to The Alfred Hospital, but police confirmed he later succumbed to his injuries. “A man who was pulled from the room unresponsive was taken to hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries,” a Victorian Police spokesperson said.

An arson chemist remains at the property as investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze. The man has not yet been formally identified, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The incident has left the neighbourhood shaken as authorities continue their examination of the fire scene.
