A 56‑year‑old man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was discovered inside a home in Lissadell Court, New Town, over the weekend.
Police were called to the property on Saturday afternoon, where they found the body of a woman believed to be in her 60s and living at the residence. Detectives say early evidence suggests she may have been dead for several weeks before being located.
The accused man has been detained and is expected to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow. Investigators have not yet released the woman’s name as inquiries continue.
The grim discovery has prompted a major forensic examination of the home as police work to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.
